Nanwan Monkey Island

The nature reserve Nanwan Monkey Island (南湾猴岛 自然保护区) is located in the large village Xincun, which belongs to the autonomous district Shui Ling Li on the southern coast of China's island province of Hainan. The "Monkey Island " is not an island but forms the tip of the Nanwan Peninsula. She is a national nature reserve for rhesus monkeys (Macaca mulatta).

The nature reserve was established in 1965 and has since developed into a popular tourist destination. It is now home to more than 2,000 rhesus monkeys and largest with 1,000 acres of China's nature reserve for the breeding and also to train monkeys.
