Narbief

Narbief is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Narbief is located on 902 m, 11 km northeast of Morteau and about 11 km west of the town of La Chaux -de-Fonds (air line). The village is located in the Jura, in the southwest of the plateaus of Maîche, increased slightly north of the trough of the Ruisseau des Seignes.

The area of ​​3.47 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The entire area is occupied by the plateau of Maîche, which is on average 900 m. It is mainly composed of meadow and pasture land, but also shows some small areas of forest (Les Cornaix in the south and Grand Bois in the east). The lowest point of Narbief lies in the partly swampy hollow of the Ruisseau des Seignes, a short watercourse, which seeps below Narbief in karstic terrain. With 935 m is reached on a knoll on the eastern edge of the forest of Les Cornaix the highest elevation of Narbief.

Neighboring communities of Narbief are Le Bizot in the west and north, the east and Le Le Russey Barboux and La Chenalotte in the south.

History

In the Middle Ages Narbief belonged to the rule Réaumont, which was under the suzerainty of the Lords of Montfaucon, from the 15th century to that of the Counts of Montbéliard. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France.

On 1 January 2009 there was a change in the membership of the district municipality. So far, belonging to the district Montbeliard, all municipalities in the canton came to the district Pontarlier.

Population

With 72 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Narbief is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. Once the population has consistently had in the first half of the 20th century in the area between 80 and 100 people, a population decline was recorded in the subsequent period.

Economy and infrastructure

Narbief was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture ( livestock and dairy farming ) and forestry embossed village. Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village has good transport links. It is located near the main road D437 which leads from Montbéliard to Morteau. Further road links exist with Bélieu Le, Le Le Bizot and Barboux.
