Narimanov, Astrakhan Oblast
Narimanow (Russian Нариманов ) is a city in the Oblast Astrakhan (Russia) with 11,521 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).
Geography
The city is located in the Caspian Sea basin about 50 km northwest of the Oblasthauptstadt Astrakhan on the right bank of the Volga.
Narimanow is the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons.
The town lies on the road Volgograd -Astrakhan.
History
The village Nischnewolschskoje arose in connection with the construction of a barrage by the main arm of the Volga with bypass channel and locks about two kilometers upstream. The place was in 1967 as Nischnewolschsk the status of an urban-type settlement (of Russian Volga Nischnjaja for Lower Volga); the construction of the barrage was completed in 1976.
From 1979, a large shipyard was built below the village, and on 19 October 1984, the place under the present name of its town charter, according to the Azerbaijani writer and communist politician Nəriman Nərimanov (Russian Narimanow, 1870-1925 ).

Economy
City -forming enterprise is the shipyard lotus, among other things, Manufactures drilling rigs. On the Volga there is an oil terminal, next to companies in the construction and light industry.
