Naryn

Naryn is an old garrison town on the Silk Road in Central Kyrgyzstan (Central Asia ). It lies about 140 km ( straight line ) south-west of the great lake Issyk Kul on both sides of the river Naryn, flowing in a picturesque gorge through the village, at around 2050 m above sea level. In Naryn, is the administrative seat of the territory Naryn According to calculations, living in 2010 39.076 inhabitants.

In the area of Naryn canyons are located with red rocks, the valley of the Naryn river and a pond ( 40 km from the city), in which large and small rivers flow to the Naryn. From Naryn, the main road leading through the zentralkirgisische highlands above the Torugart Pass ( 3752 m) to China. This transport connection is one of the branches of the ancient Silk Road and today is the most important connection from Kyrgyzstan to Kashgar in Xinjiang and on to China. In a branching off from this street side valley about 80 km south of Naryn is the landmark Tash Rabat, a well-preserved former, dating from the 15th century caravanserai.

In Naryn, there is a campus of the University of Central Asia. The public transport system of the city is guaranteed by the trolleybus Naryn.
