Nasrollah Kasraian

Nasrollah Kasraian (Persian نصرالله کسرائیان; * 1944 in Khorramabad, Iran) is an Iranian photographer. He is considered one of the most important photographers of the country and is also internationally renowned. Nasrollah Kasraian comes from one of the most important intellectuals Family of Iran - a majority of the family consists of well-known artists.

Life

Nasrollah Kasraian studied law at the University of Tehran. Two years before his graduation in 1966 he started at the same time to study the pictures.

Family

The Kasraian family is considered one of the most important intellectuals families of Iran. Besides Nasrollah Kasraian, are also Hojat Kasraian, Fati Kasraian, Ghodratollah Kasraian and Siroos Kasraian internationally renowned artists.

Work

Nasrollah Kasraian attempts to capture in his photography books all facets of the multiethnic state of Iran. Many of his books are dedicated to one per own ethnic group or area of Iran. He usually travels under considerable efforts in these areas, lives with the people concerned and tries to represent unadulterated by his photos.

He also refuses explicitly to photograph large areas of Iran, because he does not see his goal is to present Iran, but portray people in their self-understanding.

Nasrollah Kasraian has already issued more than 30 picture books, of which several award -winning. The special feature of his works is that they go beyond ordinary picture books - they usually include longer texts to the emergence of the photographs to the photographed people to the corresponding region and its history, and other backgrounds. The lyrics are often written by his wife Ziba Arshi, an ethnologist.

In addition to the regular picture books Nasrollah Kasraian also has so-called " Postscripts " and calendar edited and published works in some editions of international photo magazines, such as the Franco-German GEO.

His paintings have been exhibited individually and in group exhibitions in Iran, Japan, England, France, Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, the USA, Canada, Italy, Holland, Belgium and Singapore.
