National Progressive Party (Finland)
The National Progressive Party (also National Progressive Party, Finnish: Kansallinen Edistyspuolue ) was a Liberal party that existed from 1918 to 1951 in Finland.
The party was founded after the Finnish Civil War on December 8, 1918 by the Republican majority in the Young Finnish Party. Proponents of a monarchy in Finland founded the National Coalition Party. Although the party scored rather low election results, it was also because of their status as a "neutral " party between left and right with Kaarlo Juho Ståhlberg and Risto Ryti two presidents. In the spring of 1951, the party broke up. Most of the members were a member of the People's Party of Finland ( Suomen Kansanpuolue ), a minority of Sakari Tuomioja founded the Liberal Federation ( Vapaamielisten Liitto ).
From 1947 until its dissolution in 1951, the party was a member of Liberal International.
