Nea Kios (Greek Νέα Κίος ( f sg ) ), is a Greek town on the Gulf of Argolis in the northeastern Peloponnese. Nea Kios in 1928 carved out of the territory of the municipality Argos as a rural community ( kinotita ), raised to the municipality ( dimos ) in 1997 and lost its independence with the incorporation in 2011 to the newly created municipality Argos - Mycenae, where it has since formed a district.

Location

History

Nea Kios is displaced community as the historical continuation of the city of Kios in Asia Minor. Kios ( Gemlik today ) was on the Marmara Sea, had 20,000 inhabitants and was the seat of the Bishop of Nicaea. Nea Kios was founded in 1927 by refugees who had been displaced as a result of the Asia Minor catastrophe of Kios. It is the only independent refugee community in the Peloponnese. The resettlement of refugees in the sump area of the ancient Timenio was difficult and tedious.
