Nea Poteidaia

Nea Potidea (Greek Νέα Ποτίδαια ( f sg ); alternative and also an old name Potidaia Ποτίδαια or Poteidaia, Potidaea Latin ) is a town on the Greek peninsula Chalkidiki. It is located at the narrowest point of the transition ( isthmus ) on the Kassandra peninsula, which is just 1 km wide at this point. History

Ancient Potidea

Potidea was founded around the year 600 BC by settlers from Corinth. The colony lived mainly from trade with the neighboring kingdom of Macedonia. This they achieved great prosperity and 550 BC, a mint is even built. 479 BC, the city was saved by a tsunami from the Persians.
