Nea Salamis Famagusta FC

Nea Salamis Famagusta (Greek: Νέα Σαλαμίνα Αμμοχώστου ) is a football club from the Cypriot city of Famagusta. It was founded in 1948. The colors of the club are red and white. Since the occupation of the northern part of the island by Turkish troops, the club is located in Larnaca. The association is currently headed by president Giorgos Genagritis. First-team coach is Dimitrios Kalaitzidis. Nea Salamis Famagusta played at the Stadio RAFAEL GROUP, which offers 8,000 spectators.

Sporting successes

Nea Salamis belongs with brief interruptions from 1955 to the first Cypriot league. The best rankings of each reached association with third ranks in the promotion season 1955/56, and 1965/66, 1992/93 and 1994 / 95th

1966 reached Nea Salamis the final of the Cyprus Football Cup, but lost the team of Apollon Limassol. 24 years later, the club was again in the final. With a 3-2 against Omonia Nicosia won it for the first time in club history the trophy. In the third final appearance in 2001 Nea Salamis was again defeated Apollon Limassol.

In the European club competitions Nea Salamis had little success to date. In 1991, the team entered in the European Cup Winners' Cup, but lost in the first round twice clear the FC Aberdeen. In 1997, the club qualified for the Intertoto Cup, but resigned just one win after the first group of games. In the 2000 /01 season Nea Salamis reached after two wins against the Albanian club KS Vllaznia Shkoder the second round of the Intertoto Cup, but had to retire against FK Austria Wien.
