Neil Simon Theatre

The Neil Simon Theatre ( 250 West 52nd Street), also known by its former name Alvin Theatre, is a theater building on Broadway, which is mainly used for musical productions. The theater is located on 52nd Street.

History

Designed by architect Herbert J. Krapp theater building opened on 22 November 1927 as the Alvin Theatre play activities. As the first piece of the musical Funny Face with Fred and Adele Astaire siblings was performed. In the 30s to mid 40s CBS used the theater next to the regular operating theater as a radio studio. 1935 celebrated there the opera Porgy and Bess by George Gershwin premiered. In 1977, the theater of the Shubert Organization was purchased. In 1983 the theater after the playwright Neil Simon was renamed. 2002 celebrated the musical Hairspray, his first performance. Today, the theater of the Nederlander Organization is operated. The theater has 1445 seats.

Many famous actors and musicians have occurred in the Neil Simon Theatre or have gepspielt in the orchestra, in addition to Fred and Adele Astaire include, among other things, Ethel Merman, Ginger Rogers, Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller, Gene Krupa, Helen Hayes, Vivian Vance, Gertrude Lawrence and Henry Fonda.
