Neotragini

The lugs or dwarf antelope ( Neotraginae ) are no longer recognized a subfamily of Bovidae ( Bovidae ). It is removed gazelle -like animals, which are usually much smaller and often only slightly larger than a hare, however. In addition to the small size of some primitive features were used for classification.

According to current knowledge, it is at the lugs to no natural ( monophyletic ) group, but an arbitrary collection of smaller antelopes.

The following genera and species were counted to the lugs:

  • Genus Pelea Rehantilope ( Pelea capreolus)
  • (Neotragus pygmaeus )
  • Batesböckchen ( Neotragus batesi )
  • Moschusböckchen ( Neotragus moschatus )
  • Oribi ( Ourebia ourebi )
  • Steenbok ( Raphicerus campestris )
  • Grysbok ( Raphicerus melanotis )
  • Sharpe Grysbok ( Raphicerus sharpei )
  • Eritrea 's Dik-dik ( Madoqua saltiana )
  • Silberdikdik ( Madoqua piacentinii )
  • Guenther 's Dik-dik ( Madoqua guentheri )
  • Kirk 's Dik-dik ( Madoqua kirki )
  • Beira ( Dorcatragus megalotis )

The Rehantilope whose position was controversial, is now out as a close relative of the reed and waterbuck in the subfamily Reduncinae.

The remaining genera are classified into the gazelle -like ( Antilopinae ). However, the cliff divers and the three species of the genus Neotragus each represent old, already resulting in the Miocene side lines, which are more closely related to any other animals. The remaining four genera ( Oribi, dik, Beira and Raphicerus ), however, are closely related and even more closely with the larger gazelle -like.
