The Netto Marken-Discount AG & Co. KG is a discount food store and subsidiary of Edeka, with headquarters in the Bavarian Maxhütte- Haidhof.

Netto Marken-Discount operates more than 4,100 stores and continues to Aldi and Lidl 's third-largest German discounters. The number of employees is around 59,000. The number of trainees is estimated at about 6,900.

Because of the name similarity of the markets, Netto Marken- Discount AG & Co. KG can (yellow- red logo ) light ( yellow- black logo) to be confused with the smaller net supermarket GmbH. You have no links to each other.

History

The company was founded by Michael Schels 1928 in Regensburg as a food wholesaler. In 1971, the first own retail store under the name Sudi (Super Discount ) was opened in Beilngries, and followed up to 1983 more stores.

The net discount concept was developed in 1983 and implemented in Regensburg through the first net store. The then existing 50 Sudi stores were until 1990 then successively converted to the new concept. At this time also opened the first stores in central and eastern Germany, and a new branch in Guteborn at Meerane was built.

A new logistics center was built 1991-1992 in Ponholz near Regensburg directly on the highway 93 in the following years expanded Netto Marken-Discount on; including through the acquisition of 126 former PRIMA markets. Other offices in example Worms, testicular Hagen, Dettingen occurred on Albuch and Thien village. In November 2004 was net of the TIWI asset management mbH, a subsidiary of Spar 's main shareholder Les Mousquetaires - ITM Entreprises SA (major brand Intermarket ), taken over completely. In winter 2006/2007 net took over and after the discounter Kondi. The product lines in the remaining Kondi markets was converted to the net range in early 2007.

On November 16, 2007, from Edeka and Tengelmann the formation of a joint venture with announced Plus: The Plus branches should be gradually converted into net stores. The Federal Cartel Office approved the acquisition of the Plus stores by Edeka on 9 December 2008. Edeka, however, had to cede to the competition 379 Plus stores. Edeka holds 85 percent of the Netto Marken-Discount, Tengelmann has a silent stake of 15 percent.

Since January 1, 2009 Plus is now officially on Netto Marken-Discount and thus to the Edeka Group. Since mid-2010 all 2,300 Plus stores have been integrated into the net branch network.

Criticism

The company gets since the Plus acquisition time and again because of the organizational climate and leadership style in the critique. For example, employees threw (including executives) and representatives of the trade union Verdi before the company massively to put employees under pressure. The company disagreed with all the allegations.

After the company had been repeatedly publicly criticized for wage dumping and below the union wages, it announced in April 2011 to a minimum wage for temporary workers by 7.50 per hour plus tariff benefits.

When supermarket ranking of the Greenpeace Netto Marken-Discount occupied in 2011 at 15 tested supermarkets last place in the implementation of procurement policy for fish products.
