Neue Messe München

The new convention center is a 1994 built until 1998 fairgrounds in the Riem exhibition grounds in the eastern district of Munich Trudering- Riem. It is operated by Messe München GmbH.

Location and Transport

The exhibition center was built on the northern half of the former airport Munich -Riem. It is south bounded by the Willy -Brandt -Allee and the residential development of Riem and Riem Arcades, there are also the two metro stations exhibition center and trade fair city West East of U2. In the north, the Federal Highway 94 passes to which the fair grounds is connected with two highway exits. Even further north is the S-Bahn station in Munich -Riem, from there runs since 2001 a track for freight transport to the exhibition center. A direct connection to the Messe S -Bahn will be discussed in the course of construction of Erding circular, which would also have a direct access to the new Munich airport consequence.

Terrain and Buildings

The heart of the exhibition grounds are 16 exhibition halls with a total of 180,000 sqm of exhibition space, plus - as needed - once again up to 360,000 m² of open space in the north and east of the site. The two main entrances are located on the western and eastern end, they are connected by an approximately 650 m long and 35 m wide atrium, from which there is access to the twelve halls. On the western side, there is the International Congress Centre (ICM ), the exhibition hall and the Messesee. Before the eastern entrance stands the 86 meter high tower Fair. Architects were Bystrup, Bregenhoj Partners, Kaup, Scholz, Jesse Partner. On the third, north, entrance was established in 2006 for the World Cup a press with the World Cup Fountain, has since also used by Messe München. On the roof of the exhibition halls at the time of completion of the world 's largest photovoltaic system was installed on a building roof. This produces about 1,000 MWh of electricity per year. On the north - eastern and south-western end of the show there are two car parks with a total of approximately 5700 parking spaces. The outdoor area is used as a parking lot or at major fairs ( such as Bauma ) used as an additional exhibition space.

As of May 2016, two more halls to be built northeast of the existing building. With the 93 million -euro expansion München GmbH should be started as early as 2013 by the will of the exhibition, its shareholders ( City of Munich and the Free State of Bavaria ), however, demanded a shift.

Messesee

West of the exhibition halls is - between the former airport tower in the north and the metro station Exhibition City West or the Willy- Brandt-Platz in the south - the 390 m long and 46-94 m wide Messesee with a water area of ​​2.6 ha. It is separated in the middle by a tapering of the main entrance causeway into a northern and a southern part.
