Neuvelle -lès -la- Charité is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Neuvelle -lès -la- Charité is located at an altitude of 222 m above sea level, 7 km east of Fresne -Saint- Mamès and about 34 km north of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the west of the département, in Saônebecken, in a wide opening of the village Bach south of the Bois du Bouillon.

The area of ​​13.20 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the rolling countryside of south-east of the Saône. The central part of the area occupied by the wide opening of Neuvelle that opens to the west. It is used predominantly agricultural and drained by the village stream to Romaine. The well is surrounded by wooded hills, which consist of Tertiary deposits. With 258 m Bouillon is achieved the highest elevation of Neuvelle -lès- la Charité in the north in the Bois de. In the east, the boundary runs in the woods Bois de la Baronne and Bois de la Bouloye. History

Remains of a Neolithic settlement site indicate a very early settlement of the municipality. The area of Neuvelle was cleared in the 12th century by monks of the monastery of La Charité and reclaimed. In the Middle Ages Neuvelle belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local government had held the Lords of Oiselay the main action. A small portion of the property belonged to the monastery of La Charité. Together with the Franche -Comté came Neuvelle -lès -la- Charité with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France.

The Cistercian monastery of La Charité was founded in 1133 and was the intellectual center of the region. It was in 1477 by troops of the French king Louis XI. plundered, destroyed in 1569 by troops of the Duke of Zweibrücken and repealed as part of the French Revolution in 1789. The hamlet of La Charité in 1812 united with Neuvelle -lès- la Charité.

Attractions

The village church of Neuvelle -lès- la Charité was built in the 19th century and has an altar that was converted from a former grave plate. In the village there are two forged roadside crosses from the 18th century. Other attractions in the village include a grange of the Monastery of La Charité and a Lavoir from the 19th century, whose roof is supported by seven pillars. From the former convent convent building and a chapel from the 18th century are preserved.

Population

With 224 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Neuvelle -lès -la- Charité is one of the small towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased in the first half of the 20th century (1886 484 persons were still counted ), a slight population growth was recorded since the early 1980s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Neuvelle -lès- la Charité was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Today there are various companies of small and medium industries, including two transport companies. In recent decades the village has been transformed into a residential community.
