New England Conservatory

The New England Conservatory of Music ( NEC) in Boston, Massachusetts, is the oldest independent conservatory in the United States. It was founded in 1867 by Eben Tourjee modeled after European conservatories, and is now taking a year 750 regular students. There are also hundreds more in the so-called " Preparatory School " and a " School of Continuing Education ." Originally it was in downtown Boston, since 1902, however, it is located in a building on Huntington Avenue.

Today, the NEC is one of the most important American conservatories and is particularly known for his string of world class rank. In addition, the main concert hall, the well centennial Jordan Hall, one of the outstanding concert halls in the world. When Henry Lee Higginson 1881, the Boston Symphony Orchestra founded, he recruited the vocal leaders largely from the Conservatory. Until today Orchestra and Conservatory of interdependent; about half of the Boston Symphony Orchestra is composed of faculty members or graduates of the Conservatory (where the string section is considered the greatest asset of the orchestra, and the quality of conservatory training in this regard particularly reflected ). The NEC is co-founder and partner of "From the Top", a weekly radio show that is dedicated to outstanding young classical musicians from the entire country. From the Jordan Hall of the program will be broadcast from National Public Radio and is heard on 250 stations in the United States.
