New National Party (Grenada)

The New National Party ( NNP) is a conservative party in Grenada. The party was founded in 1984 as a merger of four smaller parties.

First party leader was Herbert Blaize. His successor since 1989 Keith Claudius Mitchell, who was Prime Minister of Grenada between 1995 and 2008 and again since 20 February 2013.

At their first appearance in the elections of December 3, 1984, the NNP immediately won 14 of the 15 seats in the House of Representatives of Grenada, and Blaize became Prime Minister. After his death in 1989 was succeeded by his party colleague Ben Jones. In the elections on 13 March 1990, the NNP sagged on 2 mandates and lost the premiership. In the elections on 20 June 1995, she was with 8 seats again strongest force, and Keith Claudius Mitchell became Prime Minister. In the elections on 18 January 1999, she received all 15 seats in the elections on 27 November 2003 8 seats. In the elections on July 8, 2008, she received only 4 seats and had to go into opposition. In the elections on 19 February 2013, it again received all 15 seats and was thus able to take over the government.
