New Utrecht, Brooklyn

New Utrecht was a town in the area of ​​today's New York district of Brooklyn. It was named after the Dutch city of Utrecht.

History

New Utrecht was founded in 1652 by Cornelius van Werckhoven. During the Revolutionary War the city was the British base of operations for the Battle of Long Iceland.

1894 New Utrecht was annexed into the city of Brooklyn, which in turn was part of the 1898 City of New York City.

Today, situated on the territory of the former New Utrecht Brooklyn neighborhoods ( Neighborhoods ) Bensonhurst, Borough Park and Bay Ridge.
