Ngatea

Ngatea is a small town on the Hauraki Plains in the North Island of New Zealand. It is located 18 km southwest of Thames and 70 kilometers southeast of Auckland. Ngatea is located on the Piako River, 8 km south of its confluence with the Firth of Thames. At the 2006 census had the statistical territory " Ngatea " 1164 inhabitants.

Ngatea is the economic center of the country economically, especially for dairy cattle, used Hauraki Plains. The city was founded in 1900 after the draining of the level had allowed for agricultural use, before the area was marshland.

The city also survived by travelers who pass through on the way from Auckland to the Coromandel Peninsula and the Bay of Plenty on State Highway 2.

Tourist destinations in and around Ngatea are the water gardens of Ngatea, the Kopuatai Peat Dome and a gem factory.
