Nickerie District

Corantijn

Nickerie is a district in the extreme north-west of Suriname, it is bordered on the east by the district Coronie, to the south by the district Sipaliwini and to the west by Guyana, the border river is the Corantijn. The district has an area of ​​5353 km ² and has 34 233 inhabitants. Capital Nieuw- Nickerie is the second largest city in the country to Paramaribo. In parliament ( Assemblée Nationale De ) of the Nickerie district is represented by five Members of Parliament.

Economics and development

The main industry is agriculture, especially rice cultivation, with the main focus in Wageningen.
