Nicola Legrottaglie ( born October 20, 1976 in Gioia del Colle (BA ), Italy) is an Italian football player. The defender stands since 2011 in Catania Calcio under contract.

Career

In the club

Nicola Legrottaglie began his football career in the youth teams of AS Bari. His first professional stop was the AC Pistoiese in the 1996/97 season, after which he played one year with the AC Prato.

From 1998 to 2003 Legrottaglie stood at AC Chievo Verona under contract, of which in 2000 he was loaned to AC Reggiana and in the 2000/ 01 season for FC Modena. For Chievo he developed into a strong central defender and so attracted the interest of big clubs in coming.

In summer 2003, Nicola Legrottaglie moved to Juventus, where he was first team regular. Because of declining benefits he received under Fabio Capello only a few missions. The end of 2004 he got the Bidone d' oro awarded. Finally, he was loaned out in January 2005 to end of season for FC Bologna and for the season 2005/ 06 for AC Siena.

For the 2006/07 season he returned to Juventus, after the demotion to Serie B, many experienced defender, had as Lilian Thuram, Fabio Cannavaro and Gianluca Zambrotta lost. After he was initially not considered by coach Didier Deschamps, he came in the second half of the season often used, completed a total of twelve matches and managed with the team direct promotion back to the Serie A.

In the 2007 /08 season Nicola Legrottaglie experienced his second spring. Almost sold before the season and stayed only as a reserve player in the squad, he benefited from the injuries his defender Jean -Alain Boumsong - colleagues and Jorge Andrade. Legrottaglie was a regular in the defense showed a duel and nervous strength as in his best days. For this reason his end of the season expiring contract with Juventus was extended in November 2007 to the summer of 2010. With his performance, the Southern Italians also recommended again for the national team.

End of January 2011 Legrottaglie changed shortly before the transfer deadline free transfer to AC Milan. After just one game in the second half of the 2010/11 season, his contract was not renewed there.

For the 2011/12 season Legrottaglie moved to Catania, where he signed a two -year contract until 30 June 2013.

In the National Team

Nicola Legrottaglie played 16 games for the Italian national team, scoring one goal. He made his debut on 20 November 2002 under Giovanni Trapattoni in a 1-1 draw against Turkey. Between 2004 and 2008, he was not nominated for the Squadra Azzurra. In August 2008 Legrottaglie, was first appointed to a good season at Juventus, Marcello Lippi returned to the squad of the Italian national team, and used in the 2-2 draw against Austria. His last game for Italy, he graduated in November 2009 in a 1-0 win over Sweden.
