Nicolae Manea

Nicolae Manea ( born March 11, 1954 in Bucharest ) is a former Romanian football player and coach and current official. In his playing career, the striker played 209 games in Divizia A, the highest Romanian league. Since December 2013 he has been President of Rapid Bucharest.

Career as a player

After his training in the youth of Rapid Bucharest he moved on to the squad for the first team in 1973. There he announced on March 16, 1974 his debut in Divizia A. At the end of the season the team was relegated to the Divizia B, where she managed the immediate resurgence. At the same time he was able to win with Rapid in 1975, the Romanian Cup. In the final against Universitatea Craiova, he scored both goals in a 2-1 victory for his team.

After relegation in 1976 Manea were relegated again at the end of the season 1976/77 with Rapid. In the following years he missed his team 's return to the top flight. In 1980 he finally left for local rivals Rapid Bucharest Steaua. There, however, he could not prevail, and returned after a year already back to Rapid back. In the 1982/83 season he was able to prevail with his club in Divizia B and rose to the Divizia A. There he could be placed in the following years in the middle of the league. In the summer of 1987 Rapid Manea left and switched to Gloria Bistrita in the Divizia B. After three unsuccessful attempts, he returned in the summer of 1990 with Gloria back to the top flight. Career as a coach

After the end of his active career Manea worked as a football coach. After four years as head coach of Unirea Dej in Divizia B he took over in the summer of 1996, the FC Bihor Oradea in Divizia C. the club he left in early April 1997 with the aim to succeed Ion Dumitru his former club Rapid Bucharest in Divizia A take over. The 1996/97 season, he finished in a square in the middle and had to make room for Mircea Lucescu.

In the summer of 1998 Manea Mircea Nedelcu inherited in Piatra Neamţ Ceahlăul. His term ended in early November 1998 after eight games without a win, as he was replaced by Viorel Hizo. In March 1999, he again took over Rapid Bucharest when the club was on the first place. When the club was five games later fallen behind Dinamo Bucharest, Rapid Manea separated and replaced him again Mircea Lucescu, with the club finally secured the championship in 1999.

From 2002 to 2005, Manea coach of the Romanian U- 21 team, missed during this time but the qualification for the European Championship.
