Nicolás Echevarría

Nicolás Echevarría ( born August 8, 1947 in Tepic, Nayarit, Mexico) is a Mexican film director.

Life and work

After studying painting and architecture in Guadalajara, he began in 1969 to study music in Mexico City. After the massacre of Tlatelolco he began in the seventies of the last century to make films. With his documentaries, he became known in Mexico. His feature film debut Cabeza de Vaca (1990 ) over the same conquistador Cabeza de Vaca attracted great attention, and made him known worldwide. With this work, sat Echevarría new standards for appearing in the film colonial history of Mexico. His film work is characterized by coherent editing and montage rhythm. In his documentaries he renounces often quite a comment and let the pictures speak for themselves.

In 1983, he turned in the U.S. together with Alan Lomax, the five -part television series American Patchwork Project. In 2001, he directed his second feature film Vivir mata, from a screenplay by Juan Villoro. Lack of financial sponsors he now works mainly for the Mexican television.
