Niederwürschnitz

Niederwürschnitz is a municipality in the Erzgebirge District in Saxony. It is part of the joint management Lugau.

Geography

The place is located in the former coal mining area Lugau / Oelsnitz between the cities of Chemnitz and Zwickau on the northern edge of the natural environment on the River Ore Würschnitz. Noteworthy is the excellent infrastructural development by the A 72 motorway, which is adjacent to the exit Stollberg North directly to the Niederwürschnitzer corridor and the center by crossing Federal Road 180

History

The origin of the town goes back to the colonization of the area by immigrants from the western part of the German Empire in the 12th century. In 1447 the Waldhufendorf founded on this place was first mentioned. The name Niederwürschnitz derives from the Slavic word " Virsnica " ( fish trap Bach), the name of this valley by flowing river.

Its present structure owes the community the onset in the 40s of the 19th century, coal mining, which converted the predominantly agricultural area along with the textile industry in a densely populated industrial region. So settled here in the economically prosperous times, nearly 5000 people. A not insignificant role played in the past, the production of bricks.

Since 1 January 2000 the municipality Niederwürschnitz belongs to an administrative community with the city Lugau / Erzgeb ..

Culture and sights

  • Location of the largest " Räuchermännel " exhibition in the world: In 1998, a total of 8629 of the smoking artworks for an exhibition together. Especially for this exhibition was the world's largest with 3.15 m smoker in the world.
  • The existing since 1892 Oriental, mechanical Christmas mountains. It contains, inter alia, scenes of the Sermon, the Assumption and the Nativity.
