Nikola Špirić

Nikola Špirić (Cyrillic Никола Шпирић; born September 4, 1956 in Prekaja at Titov Drvar, Yugoslavia, now Bosnia and Herzegovina ) is a Bosnian Serb politician of the Social Democratic Party SNSD and between 2007 and 2011, the Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina ( Prime Minister ).

Špirić attended primary school in Drvar high school in Sarajevo and graduated from the University of Sarajevo. He has a PhD in economics. From 1992 Špirić worked in Banja Luka as a professor of monetary and public finance at the Faculty of Economics and was also politically engaged. He was, after joining the SNSD 1999-2000 Member of the House of Representatives, from 2000 Deputy Minister of Human Rights and Refugees, and 2001 Chairman and 2002-06 Deputy Speaker of the House.

November 1, 2007 Špirić handed protest against the reform plans of the High Representative of the International Community, Lajčák, his resignation. This endangered his opinion, the voice of the Bosnian Serbs at the national level. The dispute between Prime Minister, Parliament and Hoher Representatives was in Bosnian media as kabinetski Council ( " Cabinet War " ) and are applied to some observers as the worst crisis since the end of the Bosnian war.

After the settlement of the dispute Nikola Špirić was again nominated on 10 December 2007 for the post of chairman and confirmed on 27 December of the presidency, and a day later by the Parliament. He was followed in 2011/12 Vjekoslav Bevanda.

Nikola Špirić is married to a Bosniakin from Tuzla.
