Nordheim am Main ( officially: Nordheim a.Main ) is a municipality in the district of Kitzingen, Lower Franconia, and a member of the administrative community Volkach.

Geography

Geographical Location

Nordheim am Main is located about 20 km northeast of Würzburg in the Main valley on the island of wine, which is formed by a natural loop of the river and the main channel. The landscape is characterized by winegrowing.

Neighboring communities

The municipality is bordered to the west by Escherndorf and Köhler, on the north by Astheim, three districts of the city Volkach, to the east by Volkach and on the south by Sommerach and Dettelbach.

Climate

The main triangle is one of the warmest and driest regions of Bavaria. This climate is especially favorable for the cultivation of wine, fruit and vegetables.

History

The first mention Nordheims was in the year 918 The monastery Muensterschwarzach acquired in 1306 the Bailiwick and advocacies with all accessories and held the village rule until its dissolution in 1803. As part of the Prince-Bishopric of Würzburg, which belonged to the Frankish Empire Circle, Nordheim was secularized in 1803 in Bavaria's favor, then the Peace of Pressburg ( 1805) Archduke Ferdinand of Tuscany left to form the Grand Duchy of Würzburg, with which it finally came to the Kingdom of Bavaria in 1814. Coat of Arms history

From a court seal of the 18th century, showing the St. Lawrence, the beige passed him rust and the palm branch was incorporated into the coat of arms of the municipality. The St. Lawrence is dedicated to the local church. Regular events

  • Wine Festival in the avenue of chestnut trees, mostly on Ascension Day in May. Organizer is the wine cooperative Nordheim am Main.
  • Culinary Wine Festival of Nordheimer wineries, vineyards and local wine cooperative in September.

Economy and infrastructure

In addition to wine is grown in Nordheim asparagus. Nordheim is the largest wine-growing village of Franconia. There are, according to official figures more than 50 wineries; 250 members belong to the wine cooperative.
