Norm McLeod

Norman McLeod (* September 1938 in Vancouver ) is a retired Canadian soccer player. It was 1957, the first Canadian scorer in a World Cup qualifier and was inducted into the Canadian Soccer Hall of Fame in 2005. His nephew Wes McLeod was in the 1970s and 1980s also Canadian national team.

Career

McLeod began at the age of 10 years with the football game and played with 14 already in the adult area. At club level, he was active for the Vancouver Halecos, with whom in 1956 he won the Canadian championship. In later years, McLeod was still playing for the Vancouver Canadians in the Pacific Coast Soccer League.

1957 McLeod was the first Canadian contingent in a World Cup qualifier. In the 5-1 home win against the United States McLeod scored the first goal. Nevertheless, the place in the next round by two defeats in the next two games against Mexico was missed.
