Normanichthys crockeri

The scales bullhead ( Normanichthys crockeri ) is a small marine fish that is endemic to the coast of the southeastern Pacific Ocean from the Peruvian island of Chimbote to the Chilean island of Mocha in depths of 37-200 meters. It was given its scientific name in honor of the British ichthyologist John Roxburgh Norman. In Peru it is called the shed Bullhead " Camotillo " in Chile " Bacaladillo ".

Features

Shed bullheads are eleven inches long. Your body is covered with ctenoid scales, the head unarmored. You have two almost identically shaped and equally large dorsal fins. Their pelvic fins are supported by a hard and five soft rays. Shed bullheads have no ribs.

System

The systematic position of the shed bullhead is uncertain. It was placed in its own order monotypic family. Nelson puts them in their own subordination ( Normanichthyoidei ) within the dragon -like head ( Scorpaeniformes ), Wiley & Johnson it is within the superfamily Gropp Cotto Idea.
