North American Agreement on Environmental Cooperation

The North American Agreement on Environmental Cooperation ( NAAEC ) ( North American Agreement on Environmental Cooperation ) is a side agreement to the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA ). The Agreement is intended to create the framework for the conservation and protection of the North American environment. This will be achieved through the cooperation of the Contracting States through an effective implementation of environmental protection legislation. The North American Agreement on Environmental Cooperation was signed by Canada, Mexico and the United States and entered into force on 1 January 1994. Under the NAAEC and the Commission for Environmental Cooperation ( CEC) was established.
