The Norwegian Academy of Science, Norwegian Det Norske Videnskaps - Akademi ( DNVA ), was founded in 1857 in Oslo under the name Videnskabsselskabet i Christiania. The aim of the Academy is to promote the sciences in the country and the representation of the Norwegian science to foreign academies and international organizations. The Norwegian Academy of Science is also responsible for the award of the Abel Prize.

The Norwegian Academy of Science has 219 places for Norwegian members and 183 places for foreign members. It has two departments, the mathematics and science and the historical- philosophical. President of the Academy is Professor Kirsti Strøm Bull

German members are, inter alia, Winfried Denk, Jörn Thiede, Hans -Heinz Emons, Bernhard Schrader Paul and Fritz.
