Nové Hamry

Nové Hamry ( German: Nové Carlsbad) is a municipality that belongs to the administrative community Nejdek ( Neudek ) in the Czech Republic.

Location

Neuhammer lies at an altitude of 693 m N.M. in the western Ore Mountains in the valley of the Rolava ( Rohlau ) ends up in the in the center of the Bily Potok ( Weissbach ). The parish is part of the village Okres Karlovy Vary in the Carlsbad area ( Carlsbad Region ), Czech Republic. Lead through this place the old trunk road from Leipzig to Karlovy Vary and in 1899 opened railway Carlsbad Johann George Town.

The municipality is divided into the Katastralbezirke Jelení u Nových hamru and Nové Hamry.

History

The establishment of Neuhammer goes back to a glassworks at the Rohlau, bearing the name Owl Cottage. Here developed or improved Christoph Schurer from Burkhardtsgruen in 1540, the method of production of blue color of cobalt. The Owls Cottage experienced through the enamel painting at the end of the 16th century a significant upswing.

1651 had to give a hammer mill the glassworks. The belonging to Glashütte Good named Eulenhof remained and formed the starting point for the new hammer mill settlement. The municipality was part of the district from 1910 Neudek.

Following the decline of the mining industry, residents fed mainly from the spoon production (from 1797) and the lace-making. To 1900, a strengthened tourism; Neuhammer developed into a summer resort and winter sports resort.

Traffic

Lead through this place the old trunk road from Leipzig to Karlovy Vary and in 1899 opened railway Carlsbad Johann George Town. The railway line crosses the site in a hairpin. Nové Hamry has a train station.
