Nugget Point Lighthouse

Nugget Point Lighthouse is a lighthouse on Cape Nugget Point in New Zealand's Otago region and a station on the Southern Scenic Route. It is operated by Maritime New Zealand.

General

The lighthouse was completed in 1869 and commissioned in 1870 in operation. He was provided after initial operation of an oil lamp from 1949 with an electrical illumination, which was powered by a diesel generator. Later, the lighthouse was then connected to the power grid. In 1989, the tower was fully automated and is now like any other New Zealand Lighthouses controlled from a control room in Wellington from. In 2006, the lighting has been replaced by an LED light with emergency battery.

Beginning in 1901, the lighthouse has meanwhile served as a post office.
