Nuremberg–Schwandorf railway

The railway line Nuremberg - Schwandorf is a 93.7 km long main highway leading from Nuremberg via Lauf an der Pegnitz, Hersbruck, Neukirchen bei Sulzbach- Rosenberg and Amberg to Schwandorf and back. It is used as a counterpart to the parallel railway line Nuremberg - Cheb ( " Pegnitz right track " ) on the section Nuremberg - Grassington referred to as left Pegnitz route or be built after the company " Eastern Railway ".

History

The concession for construction of the section of the Bavarian AG Ostbahnen was posted on April 12, 1856 issued by King Maximilian II of Bavaria. The company was nationalized on 1 January 1876. Single-track as in all former railroad lines route - - In the same year has been extended to a second track between Nuremberg and the suburb Mögeldorf. 1910-12 was followed by the installation on the main part of Mögeldorf to Amberg. The second track was put into operation: May 1, 1911 by Neukirchen to Sulzbach, in October 1912 by Mögeldorf to Neukirchen and in December 1912 by Sulzbach to Amberg. It is unclear whether and when the section Amberg - Irrenlohe has been operated twofold. Between Irrenlohe Schwandorf and the second track is from 1 October 1863.

As a result of the lack of rail material in the war the distance between Nuremberg and Laufamholz Hersbruck in 1943 (left Pegnitz ) back built on a track. In 1983 the construction of the S -Bahn on the section Nuremberg - reinstalled a second track left ( Pegnitz ) and electrified track. As part of the expansion of the S-Bahn operation of running to Hartmannshof the distance between the barrel and Hersbruck from 1 August has been banned until 14 September 2009 for all traffic. During this period, the second main track again, and the equipment for the overhead line was rebuilt and started to expand the stations. On 14 December 2009 went to Ottensoos the newly constructed platforms that are now about 300 meters closer to the center, in operation. On 15 November 2010 the rebuilt second track between the barrel and Hersbruck went into operation.

Route description

Course

The route leaves the Nuremberg Central Station to the east and extends to Grassington left the Pegnitz. Between Hartmannshof and Etzelwang the Franconian Jura is crossed ( "little slippery slope " of ) by means of a steep section. The path continues to the separation station Neukirchen ( branch train to Weiden ), Sulzbach -Rosenberg and past the former Maxhiitte to Amberg. After the station, the branch lines branched off after Lauterhofen and Schmidmühlen, today leads a branch line with pure freight to Schnaittenbach. The route continues towards Irrenlohe, where it meets the railway line Regensburg -Hof and ends after four kilometers in the station of Schwandorf.

Expansion of state

The route is expanded to double track from Nuremberg to Amberg and electrified for the S -Bahn operating between Nuremberg and Hartmannshof. The remaining route is not electrified and single track from Amberg to Irrenlohe. Before operating station Grassington pushes the connecting track the " right Pegnitz line " on the track.

Transport associations

Since 1997, the section Nuremberg - Amberg integrated as a regional train line r4 in the regional transport system Nürnberg ( VGN ). From Amberg to Schwandorf since 2009 applies to the tariff of the Regensburg Transport Association ( RVV ).

Today's Services

The track has the Neukirchen station, a so-called system maintenance, to deal in from the series 610 ( Pendolino ) or 612 ( Regioswinger ) existing trains winged.

The regional express trains ( RE) of the relation Nuremberg - Neukirchen - Schwandorf / pastures - Neustadt run every between Nuremberg and the Hersbruck station (right Pegnitz ) on the right Pegnitz route and then switch over link Hersbruck - Pommelsbrunn on the "left Pegnitz route " according to Grassington. Some of the trains remains together until the system halt Neukirchen and is separated therefrom towards Neustadt and towards Schwandorf. However, the greater part of the drive trains already separated or until Hersbruck together with the Bayreuth tensile member from Nuremberg. In the opposite direction the trains from pastures and Schwandorf - united in Neukirchen - with a few exceptions.

Trains earlier

Already in 1891 a connection was Nuremberg - Prague introduced to the 1896 nor the express pair 152/153 Stuttgart -Nürnberg- Prague came. By 1973 came as express steam locomotive, the series 001 are used. Local trains were transported to September 1973 steam locomotives of Class 50. These were then replaced by diesel locomotives of the series 221, 211 and 218 as well as by diesel railcars of Class 624. From 1972 to 2008, the series was the 628 series to be found on the line 614, and since the early 1990s until 2010.

For 150 years anniversary of the German railways in 1985 this route was one of the few on the steam after the ban on the DB In 1977, steam locomotives with special trains in use again.

Until the 11 December 2010 reversed the regional trains, consisting of diesel railcar class 628 on the track left ( Pegnitz ) - Hartmannshof as connecting traffic to the S -Bahn to run that ended there. Some of these services were provided to the timetable change in December 2008, also of railcars of series 614. In the rush hour additional regional trains went directly from / to Nuremberg.

Extension of the S -Bahn from run to Hartmannshof

By December 2010, ending in run S -Bahn was extended over Hersbruck to Hartmannshof. To this end, the track was re- fitted between the barrel and Hersbruck with a second track and electrified by running up Hartmannshof. All stations along the route were brought to S -Bahn level (140 m long and 76 cm high platform ) and provided with barrier-free access. In Happurg ( between Hersbruck and Grassington ), a new breakpoint, the current passenger train stop at Grassington has been abolished on December 4, 2010, moved to a new location near breakpoint arose. The cost of the expansion amounted to approximately 55 million euros.
