Ober Gabelhorn

Obergabelhorn and Wellenkuppe

The Obergabelhorn (often Obergabelhorn ) is a four-thousand in the Valais Alps.

Starting points for an ascent or Zermatt Zinal are.

The first ascent was made on July 6, 1865 Adolphus Warburton Moore, Horace Walker and Jakob Anderegg. The very next day came the losers in the race for the top, Francis Douglas, Peter and Joseph Taugwalder Viennin at her third attempt. Francis Douglas came a week later at the first ascent of the Matterhorn killed.

The normal route leads from the Rothorn hut ( 3198 m) over the Triftgletscher to the shoulder of the wave crest ( 3909 m), about this in easy climbing ( III ) away and the pronounced Ostnordostgrat following about the great gendarme ( Kluckerturm, fixed ropes ) to the summit. This is a combined tour high (III , ice to 50 °, AD). Other interesting climbs are the Arbengrat ( Westsüdwestgrat, III , AD) and the heavily glaciated, rarely committed north face (ice 55 ° D).
