Architectural History

The school is located on the territory of Dombezirks on a plot of a former Domkurie. At this location there is the cathedral school since the Middle Ages academic tradition. A vault from the 14th century is a reminder of it. The current building complex is 1928 arose from two older school buildings: from the former Construction School (built in 1877, the entrance to the " Cathedral Elementary School " ) or from the "higher public school on the pattern path " (built in 1874), a secondary school for girls. In 1928 the connection between the two schools by the architect Friedrich Wilhelm Virck, who designed the connecting wing (now the entrance ) in the style of brick expressionism of the Twenties.

After a strong increase in the number of students involved extensive new construction work in the then " secondary school to the Cathedral ". Various specialist scientific facilities, a geography room, a library and a spacious auditorium were built with wood paneling and 900 seats. In addition, drawing rooms, fitness rooms, a roof garden and a conservatory on the former staircase tower of secondary school for girls in the sample train were established.

The former art teacher Asmus Jessen designed various details of the interior. In the entrance hall a floor mosaic expressionist style, wall and ceiling lamps originated in star form, including cabinets and railings were designed by him. Inside were combined wall friezes, of brick with a medium blue wooden doors within the meaning of expressionist architecture. Today fall on the functionalist elements of the great hall window in the style of the twenties.

Through the air raid on Lübeck on 29 March 1942, the ÓZD was almost completely destroyed in the interior, so that almost all the details of its interiors were destroyed. The auditorium received a redesign in the style of the fifties in the course of reconstruction.

The school in 2005, was completely renovated by means of the Possehl Foundation and the municipal investment fund. The fully listed building was completely new windows, new lighting fixtures and a computer-controlled heating. In winter, also a listed historic home gym is used in the mill road for physical education. It was built in 1891 by Adolf Schwiening in neo-Gothic style.

The schoolyard was recently remodeled. The school garden has been extended by a pond and planted ramparts. In addition, a volleyball and basketball court in 2007 was consecrated and converted a former bunker to a climbing wall.

Adult education

The rooms are used for working adults in the form of evening classes.

Music

The different grade levels have a choir. Furthermore, there's a big band, which can be booked for events.

Sports

The ÓZD has a rowing team and numerous sports AGs. A special feature is the successful participation in the federal competition youth training for the Olympics.
