Očová

Očová (Hungarian Nagyócsa - to 1902 Ocsova ) is a town in central Slovakia. It lies in the valley Zvolenska kotlina in the foothills of Polana, about 12 km away from Zvolen and Detva.

The village was first mentioned in 1351 as Ochowa.

  • Jozef Moravčík, former Prime Minister of Slovakia and Mayor of Bratislava
  • Stephan Pilarick Sen. (1615-1693), Hungarian theologian and philosopher. Exulant. First pastor of the newly founded city of New Salza, who headed the cross-border parish from 1674 to 1693 and preached in three languages.
