October Revolution Island

The October Revolution Island (Russian Остров Октябрьской Революции, Ostrow Oktjabrskoj Revolyutsii ) is located in the Arctic Ocean north of the Russian mainland. It is approximately 14,170 km ², the largest of the Severnaya Zemlya Islands.

Administratively it belongs to the Siberian Taimyr Autonomous Okrug, which was incorporated on 1 January 2007 in the Krasnoyarsk region. The Island of the October Revolution is glaciated about half. The ice-free areas are occupied by tundra or nearly vegetation-free polar desert. The highest elevation is 965 m high mountain Karpinski.

In 1913, discovered by Boris Wilkizki island was called until 1926 Swjataja Alexandra (Russian Святая Александра to German: Sankt Alexandra). There are discussions about an official reintroduction of the old name from the time of Tsar Nicholas II.
