Ostrov Bolshevik
The Bolshevik Island (Russian остров Большевик, Ostrov Bolshevik ) is a north of the Russian mainland located in the Arctic Ocean island. It is the southernmost and with approximately 11,312 km ² to the island of the October Revolution, the second largest island in Severnaya Zemlya Archipelago.
Administratively it belongs to the Siberian Taimyr Autonomous Okrug, which was incorporated on 1 January 2007 in the Krasnoyarsk region. The Bolshevik island is glaciated about a third and reaches a height of 935 meters above the sea. The ice-free areas are occupied by tundra.
In 1913, discovered by Boris Wilkizki island was called ( German: St. Olga ) to 1926 Svyataya Olga. There are discussions about an official reintroduction of the old name from the time of Tsar Nicholas II, after which the entire archipelago was originally named.
