Octreotide

Octreotide is a synthetic analog of the peptide hormone somatostatin, which is used as drug. Octreotide consists of eight amino acids ( D-Phe- cyclo [ Cys -Phe- D-Trp -Lys -Thr -Cys ] -Thr ( ol) ).

In Germany octreotide (, GEP-NETs, eg carcinoids ) approved for the treatment of acromegaly and certain gastrointestinal tumors.

About DOTA coupled to 111Indium or 68Gallium ( Edotreotid, DOTATOC ) it is in the somatostatin receptor scintigraphy, or in positron emission tomography (PET ) was used for detection ( diagnosis ) of these tumors. For therapeutic purposes ( radionuclide ), beta emitters, such as 90Yttrium or 177Lutetium be used

Octreotide can be used for the treatment of cluster headache attacks when other drugs are ineffective or contraindicated.
