Oldřich of Olomouc

Udalrich II ( Ulrich, Oldericus, dei gratia dux Morauorum or Oldrich, * 1134, † October 18, 1177 ) was 1152 Duke of Hradec Kralove and reigned from 1173 to 1176 as the Duke of Olomouc.

Descent

He came from the Přemyslovci and was the younger son of the Duke Soběslav I. from his marriage to Adelaide of Hungary ( Adleyta ), the daughter of Almusch of Hungary ( Almus Uherský ).

Life

Supposedly promised Udalrich II to 1152 the Emperor Frederick Barbarossa, a large sum of money if he him - would enter the Duchy of Bohemia as a fiefdom - and not his cousin Vladislav II. After intervention by Bishop Daniel of Prague, all parties agreed that Udalrich II to leave the castle Gradetz ( Hradec Kralove ), while an imperial document of 1158 Vladislav II as " dux " (Eng. " Duke " ) of Bohemia called.

The surge did not last long and Udalrich II fled into exile to Poland, then to the court of the Emperor, where he was welcome from 1162 as an imperial loyal follower. He participated in several campaigns of Italy Emperor Frederick Barbarossa.

As Vratislav II abdicated and Udalrich II in 1173 got the opportunity to take over the Herzog-/Königtum Bohemia, he declined the honor in favor of his elder brother Soběslav II. For his refusal he was compensated with Moravia and the Duchy of Olomouc.

Udalrich II was in his first marriage with Cecilia of Thuringia, daughter of Count Ludwig I, married and secondarily with Sophie von Wettin, daughter of Margrave Otto the Rich.
