Orascom Construction Industries

The Orascom Construction Industries SAE (OCI) is an international construction company. She was also up for sale this subactivity early 2008, a major cement producer in the Middle East and Africa. The company is a member of the EGX 30 Index on the Egyptian Exchange.

The company was founded in 1950 in Egypt by Onsies Sawiris and is owned by the Sawiris family. The construction business is the starting point and one of the core companies of the now multinational and highly expansive Orascom Group.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the OCI, Nassef Sawiris, acquired in 1982 a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Chicago. He is the youngest son of the founder Onsies Sawiris.

The OCI also included cement plants in Egypt and Algeria, which have an annual production capacity of 13.5 million tons. OCI bought in Africa and the Middle East on cement plants and had also build an average of two new plants per year. Plants were also in West Africa and in Nigeria in construction. In Tunisia, the OCI plans to build a special cement plant for White Cement, a building material that is in high demand, especially in Arab countries for reasons of prestige.

In January 2008, has been publicly announced that the Orascom Group all activities of the cement production to 100 % of the world's largest cement manufacturer, the French Lafarge Group, based in Lyon, sold.

Orascom Construction Industries is also a major producer of nitrogen fertilizers and the world's largest producer of melamine; for the expansion of the activities, nitrogen fertilizer and melamine production of the Dutch DSM 2010 was adopted.
