Ormenans

Ormenans is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Ormenans situated at an altitude of 240 m above sea level, 5 km west-southwest of Montbozon and about 19 km south of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the valley of the river valley north Linotte Ognon, at the edge of the forested areas of the Grand Bois.

The area of ​​3.61 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the gently undulating countryside between the river valleys of Ognon and Saône. The western part of the area is traversed in a north-south direction from the Linotte that provides drainage for Ognon. The Talniederung has a width of approximately 200 to 500 meters and is around 30 meters, sunk into the surrounding plateau. In the west the Linotte Valley is flanked by the wooded height of the Grand Bois. To the north- east the land rises gradually to the plateau of Mont d' Ormenans, which consists of limestone of the Upper Jurassic time. It is on average 300 m and is partly, partly covered with arable and meadow land with forest. With 342 m is reached on the Mont d' Ormenans the highest elevation of Ormenans.

Neighboring communities of Ormenans are Roche- sur- Linotte -et- Sorans -les- Cordier and Fontenois -lès- Montbozon in the north, the east, and Montbozon Loulans - Verchamp the south and west.

History

The place name probably derives from the Germanic personal name Olmannus or Olmarus. In the Middle Ages Ormenans belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local government was responsible since the 13th century the Lords of Loulans. During the Thirty Years' War Ormenans was sacked by Swedish troops in 1638 and subsequently lost almost all residents by a plague epidemic. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. The rule Ormenans - Loulans in 1728 raised to the Marquisat and had until the French Revolution in 1789 inventory. Since 2000 Ormenans is a member of the comprehensive 21 villages municipal association Communauté de communes du Pays de Montbozon. Ormenans does not have its own church, it belongs to the parish Guiseuil (municipality Cenans ).

Attractions

The covered and provided with columns Lavoir that once served as well, wash and livestock watering, was built in 1829.

Population

With 64 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Ormenans one of the smallest municipalities in the department of Haute- Saône. Once the population has consistently had in the first half of the 20th century in the area between 90 and 130 persons, since a slight but steady decrease in population was recorded.

Economy and infrastructure

Ormenans was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road that leads from Loulans - Verchamps after Dampierre -sur- Linotte. Another road connection with Montbozon.
