Oscar Cantú

Oscar Cantú ( born December 5, 1966 in Houston, United States) is Bishop of Las Cruces.

Life

Oscar Cantú was ordained on November 6, 1993 the Auxiliary Bishop of Galveston - Houston, James Anthony Tamayo, a deacon. He received on 21 May 1994 by the Archbishop of Galveston - Houston, Joseph Anthony Fiorenza, the sacrament of Holy Orders.

On 10 April 2008 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him. Titular Bishop of Dardanus and auxiliary bishop in San Antonio. The Archbishop of San Antonio, José Horacio Gómez, donated him on 2 June of the same year the episcopal ordination; Co-consecrators were the Auxiliary Bishop of Galveston - Houston, Joe Steve Vásquez, and Archbishop Emeritus of Galveston - Houston, Joseph Anthony Fiorenza. From 26 May to 14 October 2010 Oscar Cantú was also Apostolic Administrator of San Antonio.

On January 10, 2013, he was named Benedict XVI. Bishop of Las Cruces; on 24 February of that year he was introduced to the office.
