Otovci

Otovci is a village and a municipality located in the hilly and Puconci Goricko in the historical region of Prekmurje in Slovenia.

Geography

The far-flung village with its 255 inhabitants ( 2002) is the northernmost settlement in the municipality and is located in the source regions of the streams and creek Mačkovski Bezjakovski creek, which originate in the central area of ​​the hill and grave state of Goricko. The nearby towns of Otovci are: to the north Boreca, in the east Stanjevci, in the south Mačkovci and Prosecka vas and to the west Vidonci. The village is the seat of the municipality about 12 km away and is from the south on the main road No. 355, which leads from Murska Sobota after Hodoš, easy to reach. The village district is very hilly and varied, farmland alternate with meadows, corn fields are being replaced by potato and beet fields. History

The settlement Pečnarovci, called in 1365, first documented as " Pechneruchi " is now lost. The place was obviously on the west side of the village district of Otovci, such as in the area of Petkov Breg and Cerova graba. In this area, the terrain consists of a sandy clay mixture, which was used until the 60s of the last century to produce excellent bricks, moreover, the domestic pottery industry was located here. Otovci is first mentioned in 1366: " Othouch in dystrictu Waralyakurniky ". In the same document is also noted: " Pechnarouch in dystrictu Waralyakurniky ". In 1499 both settlements with the place name and Othowcz Pesnarowcz be documented. In a protocol of the Diocese of Gyor / Raab from 1698 it is recorded that the inhabitants of the place Pecsnárocz to the parish of the Assumption after Felsölendva / degree were assigned and the inhabitants of the place Otocz to the parish of Holy Trinity were calculated according to Petrocz / Gornji Petrovci. In a country of maps in 1785 the place Odowce or Ottócz is clearly visible, with the settlement Pečnarovci is not already known.

In 1890, the village is officially designated Ottoháza and had 419 inhabitants, of which 418 identified themselves as Slovenes and as a Hungarian. The place belonged to the district Muraszombat / Murska Sobota and was in Vas / iron castle.

The Treaty of Trianon struck the village to the Kingdom of SHS. For the city is now officially called Otovci following data were recorded in the census on January 31, 1921 determined: 500 Slovenes and three other ethnic groups, of these 503 residents known to 164 and 339 to the Catholic to the Protestant faith.

In the census of 1931 463 inhabitants were calculated, in 1961 there were 411, and for 1971 the following figures are available: 341 inhabitants, 81 houses, 80 households and 316 villagers who live exclusively by agriculture.
