Otto Christian Hammer

Otto Christian Hammer ( born August 22, 1822 in Hulerød, Søborg Sogn, Denmark, † 10 March 1892 in Copenhagen) was a Danish naval officer and commander in the German -Danish War.

Life

He was the son of the District Commissioner and Inspector Frederick Abel Hammer (? -1877 ) And the Elisabeth Kirstine Lemvigh ( 1794-1849 ). Hammer married on February 28, 1851 Castle Hjortholm ( South Langeland ) Henriette Jacobine Hastrup ( born September 3, 1830 Castle Hjortholm ), daughter of the landowner Julianus Hastrup Jensen ( 1780-1863 ), 1823-1863 squire on Hjortholm, and the Anna Cecilie Høffding ( 1791-1861 ).

Hammer came in 1837 as a midshipman at the Naval Academy and was promoted second lieutenant on August 3, 1843. Eight years later, on August 3, 1851, he became first lieutenant and on February 17, 1858 promoted to lieutenant commander.

On April 6, 1889 Hammer was appointed captain.

Honors

  • In Rodby the " hammer Trafikskole " is named after him.
  • In 1975, the Danish torpedo boat P 542 was baptized by him in the name of "Hammer".
