Otto Frölicher

Otto Viktor Frölicher ( born June 5, 1840 in Solothurn, † November 2, 1890 in Munich, also Merry or Froelicher ) was a Swiss landscape painter and the most important German Swiss representative of the Paysage intimate.

Life

Frölicher came from the small urban educated middle class milieu and grew up in Solothurn and Olten. His father Joseph was Frölicher 1849-1856 Government. Showed early talent for drawing Otto Frolicher. In October 1859 he went to the Munich Academy to be trained by Johann Gottfried Steffan for landscape painters. In 1863 he moved to Dusseldorf, where he remained until 1865 and the mood painting Oswald Achenbach approached. After his attempt had failed, make a living in the home Solothurn, he moved in the fall of 1868 back to Munich. There he discovered the school's intimate mood landscape of Adolf Heinrich Lier. Frölicher was a member of the artist group Cassandra and the society of artists Allotria in Munich. He also worked several times as a jury member of the Glass Palace exhibitions and was chairman of the Swiss support the Association in Munich.
