Otto I, Duke of Carinthia

Otto I, Duke of Carinthia, called Otto of Worms (c. 948; † November 4, 1004 ) was the only son of the Salian Conrad the Red, Duke of Lorraine, and his wife Liutgard of Saxony, by his mother thus a grandson the Emperor Otto I.

He was Count in Speyergau, Wormsgau, Elsenzgau, Kraichgau, Enzgau, Pfinzgau and Ufgau, and in the year 956 Count in Nahegau. 978-983 and 995-1004, he was Duke of Carinthia. In the year 995 he received after the death of Henry the Wrangler with the Duchy of Carinthia, the Mark Verona. The royal election of the year 1002 he was one of the candidates.

He founded in the year 977 (or 987 - Source location uncertain), the monastery Lambrecht Speyergau. At the same time he let in Zell at Worms renovate the devastated during the invasions of the Hungarians Sanctuary of St. Philip of Zell. Around the year 1000 he founded the pin Sinsheim.

His burial place is unknown. As a possible burial places Bruchsal, Carinthia, St. Lambrecht or Sinsheim be called.

Otto was married to Judith of Carinthia († 991 ), with whom he had four sons:

  • Heinrich von Worms ( † 989/1000 ), Count of Wormsgau, ∞ Adelheid († probably 1039/1046, sister of Count Adalbert and Gerhard from the family of Matfride
  • Bruno ( * 972, † 999), from 996 Pope Gregory V.
  • Conrad of Carinthia († 1011), Duke of Carinthia, ∞ to 1002 Matilda of Swabia ( probably 988 *, † 1031/1032 ), daughter of Duke Hermann II of the House of Conradines
  • Wilhelm ( † 1046/1047 ), from 1028 or 1029 Bishop of Strasbourg
