Otto II (bishop of Freising)

Otto II von Berg († March 17, 1220 ) was the 24th Bishop of Freising from 1184 to 1220.

His father was Diepoldsberg II Count of Berg- Schelkingen, his mother Gisela of Andechs- Meranien. Three of his brothers were also bishops and abbots. Prior to his election as Bishop of Freising, he was a canon in Magdeburg. In 1189 he was able to obtain legal, market and castle law for the Austrian possessions of the diocese. 1198 in the double election of Philip of Swabia of the Hohenstaufen dynasty and Otto of Brunswick of the dynasty of Guelph he was only on the Staufen side, but finding IV later in the wake of the Welf Otto. 1215 paid homage to Otto of Freising, Frederick II

Otto is also known as the author of a German translation of the Barlaam and Josaphat legend, the Latin original.
