Otto Mencke

Menckestraße Otto ( born March 22, 1644 Oldenburg. . † 18 Januarjul / January 29 1707greg in Leipzig ) was a German scholar and professor of moral and policy at the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Leipzig.

Menckestraße came emerged as a son of Johannes (Hans) Menckestraße from a large family of scholars from Oldenburg, from the several professors at the University of Leipzig. After attending the Latin school in his hometown, he attended high school in Bremen, studied in Leipzig philosophy and received a master's degree in 1664. He then studied for half a year theology at the University of Jena and then returned back to Leipzig to turn to the law. He received his doctorate in 1668 at the University of Leipzig and received in 1669 the professorship.

Its particular merit is the publication of the first German scholar journal, the Acta eruditorum, which was first published in Leipzig in 1682. In this written in Latin monthly new, especially scientific books were presented. Menckestraße was a close friend of Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz, who wrote over 100 contributions to Acta eruditorum. Menckes son Johann Burckhardt Menckestraße (1674-1732) led the magazine continued after the death of his father, her show was set in 1782.
