Oulens -sous -Echallens is a municipality in the district of Gros- de -Vaud in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.

Geography

Oulens -sous -Echallens lies on 588 m above sea level. M., 4 km west of Echallens and 14 km north- northwest of the canton capital Lausanne ( straight line ). The former street line village extends on the plateau of the Gros de Vaud, between the valleys of the Venoge in the west and the talent in the East, in the Vaud Mittelland.

The area of ​​5.9 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the gently undulating plateau of Gros de Vaud, the granary of the canton of Vaud. History

The municipal area was already inhabited in the Burgundian, of which two grave mounds testify in the forest north of Oulens -sous -Echallens. The first documentary mention of the place was already in the year 595 under the name Ollens. Later, the names Hollens ( 1141 ), Oulens ( 1177 ), Olleyns (around 1200), Ouleins ( 1228 ), Olleins ( 1238 ) and Oulans (1439 ) published. The place name comes from the Burgundian personal names Ollo back (derived from Adlo, Audilo or Odilo ) and means for the people of the Ollo.

Since the Middle Ages was under Oulens -sous -Echallens the reign Echallens. After the Burgundian Wars, the village came in 1476 at the Bailiwick Orbe Echallens, which was under the general rule of Bern and Fribourg. After the collapse of the ancien régime Oulens -sous -Echallens belonged from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic to the canton of Geneva, who came up then with the enactment of the Act of Mediation in the canton of Vaud. 1798 was assigned to the District Echallens.

Attractions

In Oulens -sous -Echallens is since 1141 a chapel above, which belonged to the abbey Montbenoît in France. This chapel was later elevated to parish church. The present building has a newly built 1529-30 choir in the flamboyant Gothic style. The choir is separated by a wrought iron railing from the nave. From the 19th century comes the outer shape of the church (facade and bell tower ). In the center some stately farmhouses dating from the 18th and 19th centuries have been preserved.
