Our Chalet

Our Chalet is one of the four meeting centers of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts ( WAGGGS ), so the World Association of Girl Scouts. The name of Our Chalet is a play on words, it refers to the one on the building type, on the other, the native of the French word "Chalet " which from the Latin for cala " protected place " derived

Geography

The center Our Chalet is located in the Bernese Alps at 1350 meters above sea level in Adelboden in the Bernese Oberland in Switzerland, at the foot of the Lohner between the hamlets of soil and Hirzboden.

History

The chalet was opened in 1932 by Olave Baden -Powell, co-founder of the Girl Scouts movement WAGGGS and wife of Robert Baden -Powell, the founder of the Scout Movement. In 1999, another chalet to the so-called " Spycher ". Both buildings have single rooms but were also shared room up to 7 people, and created a dormitory for up to 18 people, in the big Chalet

Part of the center is standing next to the chalet " Squirrel House ", which offers a self-catering house can accommodate about 16 people. The slightly higher than the center lying "Baby Chalet " offers space for 4 people.

In the history of the chalet was a campground and a warehouse, the " Edelweiss hut ", created to satisfy the growing demands of the guests.

Use

It serves as a meeting center for scouts and especially scouts from all over the world. In addition, the Center is the starting point for a variety of Scout activities such eg hiking, winter sports and excursions to the Bernese Oberland.

The three other world centers of WAGGGS are in Mexico (Our Cabaña ), England ( Pax Lodge) and India ( Sangam ).
